Kadence – Displaying Published and Updated Dates
Sometimes you'll want readers to know not only when a blog post was first published, but also when it was last updated – especially if you update your posts regularly for SEO or accuracy.
In this quick guide, I'll teach you the difference between Published Date and Updated Date and how to display both on your single blog posts using Kadence. It's very easy!
What's the difference between the two?
- Published Date: the original date when your post was first published.
- Updated Date (Modified Date): the date when your post was last edited or updated – for example, when you change the title, content, or images.
Showing both can be helpful because it builds trust with your readers and lets them know your content is current. It also helps search engines understand when your post was last refreshed.
How to add the updated date
By default, your theme will display the published date only. But you can easily add the updated date as well. Here's how:
- From your dashboard, navigate to Appearance > Customize > Posts/Pages Layout > Single Post Layout
- On the right side where you can see your website, navigate to a blog post so that you have a visual and can see your changes live
- Scroll down to Title Elements and click the arrow to open up the Meta options
- Under Date Label, click the eye icon to make the label visible. The default label text is "posted on", but you can adjust this.
- Lastly, toggle on the Show last updated date? setting. You can adjust this label text too.
