Kadence Child Theme - Introduction & important info
Hello & welcome to the Theme Documentation center for your new Kadence child theme by Hearten Made!
You might be wondering, what's a child theme?
A child theme (what you purchased!) is a sub-theme that inherits all the functionality and features of its parent theme (Kadence). Child themes can modify a WordPress theme's code without actually making any changes to the parent theme's files.
To begin setting up and customizing your child theme, click on the name of your theme on the left to open your theme's documentation. Start at the first article, and then work your way down!
IMPORTANT: BEFORE YOU BEGIN
- It's recommended that you update your site to the latest version of WordPress before installing your theme.
- Always make sure you have a backup of your site before installing a new theme! Your hosting most makes daily site back-ups for you, but if not, you might want to consider a backup plugin.
- I recommend that your PHP version be 7.2. But, version 7.0 at the latest. If you're unsure of the version, check here.
- If you have installed the "Classic Editor" plugin, you will need to uninstall it to make the theme work. All Hearten Made child themes of Kadence use the WordPress Blocks/Gutenberg to build & design the pages. The classic editor is very outdated and will not work with the themes. WordPress blocks/Gutenberg are the future of WordPress and soon, the old classic editor will be incompatible. The end of life for the classic editor is Dec 31, 2021. I recommend switching now if you haven't already.
